THE VINEYARD | THE CONCEPT

Mount Torrens Vineyard is a very small family owned vineyard is the cool climate Adelaide Hills. Planted by David Thompson and Glenn Easton (late) in 1996 Mount Torrens vineyard grows only Shiraz and Viognier. The wines which are one hundred percent estate grown are marketed under the Solstice brand name. The vineyard has been managed from day one to produce extremely low yields ensuring high quality wines that show their unique regionality. Traditional winemaking techniques used by Barossa wine makers David Powell and Craig Isbel further enhance the wines.

THE VINEYARD
Mount Torrens vineyard is a 6 acre property planted on an eastern facing slope with elevation between 450-500metres.The steep eastern slopes allows good early morning sun and also reduces hot afternoon sun, they also allow good drainage of water which with a policy of no irrigation vigor and yields can be controlled.Soils consist of a thin layer of loam over clay which allows good moisture holding characteristics enabling a dry grow policy.Vines are managed during the growing period to ensure low yields of between 1-1.5 tonnes per acre. Vines are all hand pruned and grapes hand harvested in late April to mid May each year.
